Golf School Facilities / Directions

The Lonnie Poole Golf Course is a stunning layout designed by Arnold Palmer and the design team at Arnold Palmer Design Company (including Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson, both NC State graduates).  With breathtaking views of the Raleigh skyline and the award winning Centennial Campus, the golf course has become a favorite in the golf community. Golfweek has voted the course one of the top 30 college/university golf courses in the world every year (2010-2024) since opening.

The purpose of the facility is to provide a public golf course on the Centennial Campus of NC State University that serves as a venue for the men's and women's golf teams.  It also facilitates turfgrass and storm water research associated with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  Likewise, the golf course serves as a teaching and training facility for the PGA Golf Management Program in the College of Natural Resources.  The course is very playable for all skill levels and a large challenge to low handicap players. 

In 2014, the Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse opened at the facility.  The two-story clubhouse offers first-class service to golfers, diners, varsity golf teams, and students studying professional golf management and turf management.  The clubhouse has a full-service restaurant, bar and catering, golf shop, public and private locker rooms, meeting rooms, golf cart storage, golf teams lounge and locker rooms, indoor hitting bays, club repair area, and many other amenities.  University Dining and Rave Catering operates the food service and catering.  The location has become a hot spot for meetings, banquets, weddings, receptions, and other special occassions.

In 2016-2024, the NC Golf Panel voted Lonnie Poole Golf Course the best golf course in Raleigh

The entire facility was built with private donations and totaled over $16 million.  The lead donations for the golf course and clubhouse was provided by Lonnie Poole and his wife, Carol Johnson Poole.  This amazing facility is one of the top University golf destinations.
